Experience
A Living Eranos Lineage
Situated within the intellectual and spiritual world that gave rise to the renowned Eranos gatherings, our next-generation colloquium unfolds in deliberate continuity with one of the twentieth century’s most generative circles of thinkers and visionaries.
Held on Monte Verità above Lake Maggiore, the colloquium invites participants into this lineage as a living atmosphere. In the broader Ascona landscape that nourished C. G. Jung, Olga Fröbe-Kapteyn, and their circle, ideas and place still converge with unusual force, allowing attendees to sense something of that continuity for themselves.
The result is a living tradition made palpable: an experience that situates participants within a larger mythic and intellectual story.
Sustained Dialogue with Leading Thinkers
Our colloquium brings together a small group of distinguished scholars, philosophers, and creative visionaries for five days of sustained intellectual exchange.
Rather than the frantic and fragmented format typical of academic conferences, the gathering allows ideas to unfold through extended lectures, informal conversation, shared reflection, and spontaneous dialogue. Perspectives deepen over time as participants return to the same voices across multiple settings and within an atmosphere of genuine continuity.
In this environment, ideas are not simply presented—they are metabolized through the living field of dialogue, often giving rise to insights that emerge only through sustained shared inquiry.
Intimacy by Design
Our colloquium is intentionally limited to a small circle of approximately seventy total participants.
This scale allows for the kind of atmosphere rarely possible in larger gatherings: unhurried discussions, shared meals, and direct engagement with speakers throughout the day. Intellectual exchange becomes personal rather than performative.
The result is a rare degree of relational depth—an environment where meaningful connections, unexpected collaborations, and enduring friendships often emerge.
An Immersive Intellectual Ecology
For the duration of the gathering, participants and faculty reside together in a lakeside setting overlooking Lake Maggiore, with the entire hotel reserved exclusively for the colloquium.
This shared environment creates a coherent experiential container in which conversation, reflection, landscape, cuisine, and daily rhythm reinforce one another. The setting encourages both intellectual engagement and contemplative integration.
Within this immersive atmosphere, subtle shifts of perspective often arise naturally—giving the gathering the character of an initiatory experience rather than a conventional conference.
A Question Equal to the Moment
At the heart of the gathering lies a central inquiry: how are we to understand the enduring polarity between immanence and transcendence that has shaped human self-understanding across civilizations?
In an age of technological acceleration and profound cultural transition, our colloquium opens a space where philosophy, depth psychology, cosmology, and mythic imagination converge in sustained dialogue. The question is not whether these polarities can be dismissed as perceptive error, nor affirmed as ultimate law, but whether they disclose something fundamental about the structure of reality and the place of the human being within it.
What is at stake, therefore, is more than conceptual clarity. By bringing this question into rigorous and living conversation, the gathering seeks to illuminate the assumptions shaping our understanding of consciousness, culture, and the potential of the human being.
A Fully Human Gathering
In keeping with Kosmos Institute’s commitment to the cultivation of wisdom through the living unity of body, soul, and spirit, the colloquium is conducted entirely in person and without digital mediation. There are no remote sessions, screens, or artificial intelligence—only sustained human conversation, shared presence, and the kind of attentive dialogue through which genuine understanding becomes possible. Those who wish to participate in this field of inquiry must therefore join us physically in Ascona; the experience exists only in the shared space of place, presence, and living dialogue.
To Be and Not to Be
Immanence, Transcendence, and the Emergence of Sophianic Consciousness
The 2026 Kosmos Institute Colloquium is devoted to exploring the polarity of immanence and transcendence and the possibility of a renewed Sophianic consciousness adequate to our time.
